Little Letters Thinlits Birthday

Love the new thinlits Little Letters.  They are 3/4" high and I was able to get "birthday" to fit perfectly across a card panel.  The look of the negative die cut on cards is one of my favorite techniques.

Since a lot of times I do multiple cards at once and these are separate dies for each letter, I set up all the letters I needed on a whisper white panel and ran it through the big shot to make a template.  Then I was able to hold down each panel I wanted to die cut with a post it, put the template on top tacked with post-its and placed the letters in the holes.  It allowed me to do many panels at once.

The DSP is from the Moonlight series pack.  The "happy" is from a retired set because I haven't gotten the latest sentiments yet from the new catalog. It was inked using Blackberry Bliss.  The rhinestones were all colored with the new Blendabilities markers.

Nautical Birthday

Red, white and blue is always a popular combination around the 4th of July!  And right now the nautical theme is very on trend.  That's where the inspiration for this card came.

Using the compass image from The Open Sea stamp set, I clear stamped multiple times and clear embossed onto Night of Navy cardstock. I cut 3/4" x 4"strips of the Night of Navy cardstock and adhered them to a 4" x 5-1/4" Whisper White piece of cardstock.  This panel is attached to the Crumb Cake base card.

The anchor from The Open Sea is stamped in Real Red and layered with Real Red cut with the Circles Framelits.  Some linen thread was added behind it and a silver slimmer star was added.  My first go with this card did not include the embossed compasses, but I think they add a nice texture and depth to the card without overpowering the main anchor image.

Happy Father's Day 2014

My girl and I sat down last night and made some cards for Father's Day.  We made three, one for her dad and one for each of her grandfathers.  This was the perfect occasion to use the new Mustache Framelit die.  I knew I wanted to layer the Mustache die over a heart that used DSP.  Since I'm still collecting the DSP from the new catalog, I used the Retro Fresh from the recent Occasions Mini.

The base of the card is Coastal Cabana embossed with the Arrows TIEF.  So Saffron was used for the sentiment panel and the words stamped in Cajun Craze.  The Mustache is Baked Brown Sugar card stock and embossed with Decorative Dots TIEF.

All this creativity inspired my girl.  She has a birthday party next week for a very good friend and she wanted to make her card herself from start to finish.  She started by sketching out an idea she had in a little notebook.  Then she told me what colors she wanted and I gave her the corresponding Stampin' Up! colors, Crumb Cake, Confetti White and Strawberry Slush.  She used the now retired cupcake stamp set and the corresponding punch that is still available.

The only thing I did for her was tie the main bow.  Didn't she do a great job?  Being in the craft studio with her was a lot of fun!  She even organized my punch draw for me!
