Stampin' Up! Leadership 2013

My upline has been telling me I need to go to Stampin' Up! Leadership, but I just don't have the downline to qualify to go.  This year, in honor of Stampin' Up's 25th Anniversary, they opened Leadership up to everyone!  I immediately signed up as it was held in Orlando Florida.

It was almost like a condensed convention.  Great classes, informative presentations, lots of swap cards and many wonderful ideas on display.  Oh, and lots of free goodies!  I won prize patrol, a Sale-A-Bration stamp set and some flower ribbon.  I thank Carrie Cudney since she handed me my packet at check-in with the winning wrist band in it!  I got to meet some new people - one of which is Stampin' Royalty!  Jeanna Bohanon, current Artisan Award Winner!  She was so cute and fun to talk to and very talented!  She posted a pic of us during class on her blog:

The swap cards I received were just fabulous, really good quality.  I will have to dig out my favorites and post some.  I really struggled with my design.  I did not want to go to Leadership without cards to swap, but I was so sick at Christmas and two days before we were set to fly to Orlando, I got bronchitis!  And I was stuck without a good idea for a card!  I knew I wanted to use the new "Swallowtail" stamp from the Spring 2013 Mini Catalog.  But it just wasn't working right.  A few conversations with my upline and many photo texts back and forth, here is what I came up with:

I took the picture with my phone in my hotel room because I forgot to bring my camera and didn't want to give them all away before getting a photo!  The base layer of the card is Island Indigo and the inner panel Pool Party.  I stamped in Pool Party ink using the "En Francais" background stamp and in Island Indigo ink the "Swallowtail" image.  I made my own shimmer mist and sprayed it on the top, punched out a flower and put a pearl on top, adhering with a glue dot.  Stamped sentiment in Island Indigo and punched out using our Large Oval Punch.  I just love the detail in the butterfly image.  It made me want to make a simple card in order to highlight it.

Overall, the Leadership trip was a great success.  Perhaps next year I will be able to go again.
