Summer time

I needed to come up with a birthday card for my boss. With all these new stamp sets, there has to be something that is more masculine. I saw a card sketch on Clean & Simple that I liked, but it was square, so I turned it into an A2 size for this birthday card. This set used Serene Silhouettes. The colors are Always Artichoke, Old Olive, Crumb Cake. I threw an orange button on and tied with linen thread. Used the Woodgrain Background in Craft ink on the Crumb Cake card base. Summer time equals beach! I wanted to do a card that evoked the beach using the By the Seashore set. Dawn Olchefske recently posted a video on her blog about Triple Time stamping. It seemed a great technique for the theme I wanted! I used Baja Breeze and Crumb Cake cardstock, Marina Mist and Crumb Cake ink for the images. A little Pool Party baker's twine and a Vintage Faceted button.

Lots of new sets!

Now that I've had a little time to sit down and get some card making done, here is a bit of what I've come up with using the new Catalog stamp sets. This is the Happy Hour set. It replaced a retired set called Cheers To You which I really loved! This new set is a tad more versatile in that it has some Christmas elements to it as well. No beer mug included this time though, which I really liked to make masculine cards or even kid cards turning it into root beer float images. I used Tangerine Tango, Whisper White and the green is Lucky Limeade. The Designer Series Paper is the Floral District collection. I used the decorative label punch to cut out the drink image. Fun little detail, I used a two way glue pen and sprinkled dazzling diamonds on the rim to make it look like salt/sugar and then popped up the lime wedge with a glue dot. This card uses Betsy's Blossoms and the accent band in Gumball Green is from Summer Silhouettes stamp set. I was perusing my saved blogs looking for inspiration. I really didn't know what to make with this set and it seems to be a favorite set for stampers. Reading Jill Hilliard's blog, she had a card class offering and her card was what inspired this one. I used the same layout and similar color scheme, Marina Mist, Midnight Muse and Gumball Green, just changing up some of the details. I loved her idea of the pearl for the eye. I stamped the front wing in Midnight Muse, cut it out and popped it up with a stampin' dimensional. Used the scallop edge border punch as well as the dotted scallop ribbon border punch. This was a quick one using Blooming with Kindness. Definitely a new favorite! Stamped in Primrose Petals the sentiment and then in Versamark the flower image. Poured clear embossing powder on top and heat set. Using sponge wedges I rubbed the Primrose Petal ink around the flower which allowed the embossed part to emerge. The center is Summer Starfruit ink just to give it a little dash of color. Matted the whisper white onto Primrose Petal cardstock and then onto Textured White cardstock.

New Catalog Preview

Stampin' Up! changed the catalog start date this year, moving it back one month.  It's typically in July, but with the holiday, ordering and shipping always prolonged getting new goodies!  And I'm already one week out via UPS shipping from Utah.  This also months a month earlier to play with some new sets!  I was definitely ready to see some new stamp sets.

I also participate in a card swap with other demonstrators so I had to come up with an original design.  Sometimes I am just not in the creative mood, and other times I am so busy at work that I don't have room left in my brain to be creative!  This was one of those times.  I was working to the last minute, the night before the cards had to be overnighted, giving me the maximum amount of time.  I was cutting roses as I put my daughter on the bus that morning in fact!  But I got them done!  Phew!

This card uses the new set Papaya Collage and the labels frame and rose are the new In Color Raspberry Ripple. I used the Twitterpated designer series paper, but used Pink Pirouette since Blushing Bride is no longer in the catalog. I used a touch of Gumball Green on the leaf and the scalloped border, and Soft Suede to frame the embossed Very Vanilla panel which I stamped the leaves/branch image 3 times on in Soft Suede. I stamped off once so that the Soft Suede would not be as prominent.

Wedding Cards

I wanted to make a wedding card for my cousin but was running out of time! I ended up having to finish it in my hotel room the night before, but I am glad I was able to finish it. I embossed with silver embossing powder the words after stamping the flower design and cut them out using a punch. Layered it on bashful blue and night of navy and then onto brushed silver panel. I embossed some shimmery white using Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and layered that on night of navy. The card size is a little over 3"x6" and it has a money pocket on the inside. This card used a lot of Big Shot embossing as well, with the flower border, the dots, the label collection die cut out and the oval frame embossing. All the cardstock used was Shimmery White which has a great sparkle to it. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it with Pewter embossing powder. I popped up many of the layers to give it some depth and dimension, resembling a wedding cake!
